An AI workout planner that remembers what you actually did.

An AI workout planner turns your goal, experience, equipment, and schedule into a structured plan. Simple Muscle adds the missing feedback loop: connect a compatible external assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude, save the plan to an iPhone tracker, log what happened, and use requested training history for the next adjustment. The connected app workflow uses the assistant you choose rather than locking you to one proprietary coach.

GuideHow the plan → log → revise loop works with a connected assistant.

The workout tracker is native to iPhone; the planning conversation stays in your chosen assistant.

Planner decision checklist

A useful plan has to survive contact with the gym.

These capabilities make the difference between an exercise suggestion and a plan you can actually follow. They do not prove that any plan is safe or optimal.

Uses real constraints

The plan has to fit actual days, time, and equipment.

Brief the connected assistant in normal conversation before it writes anything.

Produces a complete prescription

An exercise list alone is not a followable plan.

Workouts include ordered exercises, sets, reps or duration, weight targets, notes, and day labels.

Fits the training environment

Every movement needs to resolve inside the tracker.

The assistant selects exercises from the Simple Muscle catalog.

Records completion

A plan cannot improve from memory or guesses.

The iPhone app stores completed workouts and set details.

Separates plan from history

Future work should change without rewriting what happened.

Templates are writable; completed history is read-only to connected assistants.

Supports deliberate revision

Changes should follow adherence and performance.

The assistant can request recent sessions and exercise history before proposing an update.

Production connector result

One request became three saved workouts.

This plan was returned by the live Simple Muscle connector in Claude on August 11, 2026. It contains no completed personal history. The starting loads are examples, not recommendations for another person.

Planning brief
“Create a three-day full-body strength plan for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I have 45 minutes, train in a commercial gym, and want simple progression. Use exercises available in Simple Muscle and show me the plan before saving it.”

A real planning conversation should ask for missing baseline information or use clearly conservative placeholders. Review every target before training.

The second prompt matters

Do not let the plan revise itself from guesses.

After training, ask the assistant to read only the history it needs, summarize what changed, and show the smallest proposed adjustment before saving it.

Review first · no edit
“Review my last four weeks. Summarize consistency and the exercises where my completed reps or load changed most. Do not edit anything yet.”
Then propose
“Recommend the smallest justified adjustment for next week. Explain the evidence, show the proposed template change, and wait for my approval before saving it.”

Three common workflows

Choose where planning and tracking should live.

Each model can be useful. The tradeoff is between setup, continuity, and how much control you keep over the assistant and the workout record.

01

Chat-only AI plan

Strength

Fast and flexible

Limitation

You must copy the plan and keep supplying updated history manually.

02

Workout app with built-in AI

Strength

Planning and tracking may be integrated

Limitation

The coach, model, interface, and pricing are tied to that app.

03

External AI + Simple Muscle

Strength

Keep a preferred compatible assistant while the tracker supplies structured plans and history

Limitation

Requires connector setup; iPhone cloud synchronization is paid after the trial.

Want a plan in front of you before setting any of this up? The free workout plan generator builds one on this site, then this loop is what makes it improve.

What personalized really means

The assistant can use context. It cannot observe you.

A plan becomes more specific when the assistant can use what you provide and the structured Simple Muscle data it requests after authorization.

Goal and recent training experience
Weekly availability and session duration
Equipment and exercise preferences
Current plan and scheduled days
Completed sets, reps, load, and duration
Per-exercise history and training frequency

What the data cannot establish

  • The assistant does not observe technique through a camera.
  • It cannot feel pain, fatigue, symptoms, or readiness.
  • Workout history is not a diagnosis or medical clearance.
  • It does not replace a qualified clinician or coach.
  • You remain responsible for reviewing suggestions and tool actions.

The plan becomes a record you can use again.

Simple Muscle stays focused on the gym floor: follow the structured plan, log each set, use the rest timer, and keep completed sessions available for later review.

Understand sync

Local tracking is free and offline. Cloud backup and sync continue as a paid feature after the seven-day trial; without sync, new local workouts are not current remote context.

Is this an AI personal trainer?

It handles part of the planning job, not the human role.

It can turn your constraints into a workout plan, use the training data you choose to connect, and revise future workouts. It is not a human personal trainer and does not provide live supervision, camera-based form correction, diagnosis, rehabilitation, or emergency judgment.

Questions

AI workout planner FAQ

What is an AI workout planner?
An AI workout planner turns goals, experience, schedule, equipment, and constraints into a training plan. A useful result includes complete workout prescriptions, not just a list of exercises.
How is Simple Muscle different from an AI workout generator?
A generator usually ends when it returns the plan. Simple Muscle lets a compatible external assistant save structured workouts, while the iPhone app records completion and makes requested history available for a later revision.
Does Simple Muscle include its own AI coach?
No. You choose a compatible external assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude. Simple Muscle is the structured workout tracker and authorized connection layer.
Can ChatGPT or Claude create a complete workout plan in Simple Muscle?
Yes. After authorization, a compatible assistant can create a two-to-seven-workout plan in one operation using exercises from the Simple Muscle catalog, with exact prescriptions and schedule labels.
Can the AI change workouts I already completed?
No. Connected assistants can analyze completed sessions, but completed history is read-only. Changes apply to future workout templates.
Does the assistant automatically receive all my workout data?
No. Connecting does not upload the full history in bulk by default. The assistant requests specific plans, sessions, or exercise history through authorized tool calls.
Can I use the tracker and MCP connection for free?
Core local iPhone tracking works free and offline, and the dashboard and MCP connection do not require the iOS subscription. Continued cloud backup and synchronization after the seven-day trial is paid.
Does Simple Muscle work on Android?
The native workout tracker is currently available for iPhone. There is no Android app.
Is an AI workout planner a replacement for a personal trainer?
No. It can help create, organize, and revise a plan, but it does not provide live supervision, camera-based form correction, diagnosis, or professional accountability.
What should I do if I have pain, an injury, or a medical condition?
Stop a painful movement and seek an appropriate qualified professional. Workout history cannot establish medical readiness, diagnose an injury, or provide rehabilitation advice.
Plan once. Log honestly. Revise deliberately.

Start with a complete brief, review the proposed plan, then connect it to the iPhone tracker you will use in the gym.
