What you need before setup

Anthropic currently supports remote custom connectors on Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. Free users are limited to one. Team and Enterprise workspaces require an Owner to add the connector before members authorize their own accounts.

Setup

One link. 4 steps.

The connection uses your normal Simple Muscle sign-in. No API key or separate developer account is required.

Connection link
https://api.simplemuscle.ai/mcp
  1. 1

    Open Claude Connectors

In Claude or Claude Desktop, open Customize → Connectors. Individual accounts can add their own connector; Team and Enterprise workspaces first need an Owner to add it for the organization.
  2. 2

    Add a custom connector

Select + → Add custom connector, name it Simple Muscle, and paste the remote MCP URL shown above. No separate OAuth client ID or secret is required.
  3. 3

    Connect your account

Choose Add, then Connect. Claude opens the Simple Muscle sign-in and authorization flow. Use your normal Simple Muscle account and approve the connection.
  4. 4

Turn it on for a conversation

In a Claude chat, select the + menu, open Connectors, and enable Simple Muscle. Ask Claude to show your workouts to confirm that it can reach your account.
Instructions last verified August 11, 2026. Provider menus can change.
Real workout data

Useful access, with a hard boundary.

Claude can help plan and analyze training without rewriting what actually happened in the gym.

Read

Plans, exercise details, and completed sessions

Claude can inspect your current workouts, targets, completed sets, exercise history, training frequency, volume, and the Simple Muscle exercise catalog.

Change

Future workout templates

It can save a multi-day plan, schedule workouts, revise prescriptions, reorder exercises, add coaching notes, and archive or delete templates.

Protected

The record of what you completed

Claude can use completed sessions for analysis and progression decisions, but the connector does not let it rewrite or remove that history.

First conversation

Try these after connecting.

Plan
Build a four-day upper/lower plan around the equipment in the Simple Muscle catalog. Save all four workouts with exact sets and reps.
Analyze
Use my last six weeks of completed sessions to summarize consistency, weekly volume, and exercises where my performance has stalled.
Adapt
Review my recent squat sessions and adjust the next workout conservatively. Explain the evidence you used before saving the change.

Your account stays yours.

The connection opens Simple Muscle’s normal sign-in and grants tools only after you authorize it. Claude never needs your Simple Muscle password.

  • Claude connects to the public Simple Muscle MCP server from Anthropic’s cloud rather than from your local device.
  • OAuth authorization means Claude does not see or store your Simple Muscle password.
  • You can disable the connector per conversation or disconnect it from Claude’s connector settings.
  • Review Claude’s tool approvals carefully, especially for workout removal or deletion actions.
Questions

Before you connect

Which Claude plans support custom connectors?
Anthropic currently documents remote custom connectors in beta for Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. Free users are limited to one custom connector. Team and Enterprise organizations require an Owner or Primary Owner to add the connector before members connect their accounts.
Does the connector work in Claude mobile?
Remote connectors are associated with your Claude account and are available across Claude surfaces after connection. Anthropic currently describes installing custom connectors on mobile as beta and recommends web or desktop as the primary setup path.
Should I install a local Claude Desktop extension instead?
No. Simple Muscle is a cloud service with a public remote MCP URL, so a remote custom connector is the appropriate mechanism. Local desktop extensions are intended for tools that run on your own computer or need local operating-system access.
Why can’t I add the connector in a Team or Enterprise workspace?
Only an Owner or Primary Owner can add a custom connector to a Team or Enterprise organization. After the owner adds it, individual members can find it under Customize → Connectors, choose Connect, and authorize their own Simple Muscle account.
Can Claude modify my completed workouts?
No. Completed session history is read-only. Claude can analyze it and use it to recommend or save changes to future workout templates, but it cannot edit the historical record.
Provider setup details verified against Anthropic’s current connector documentation.
