ChatGPT connection guide

Connect ChatGPT to your real workout history.

Simple Muscle gives ChatGPT permissioned access to your planned workouts and the sessions you actually completed. It can build and adjust the plan while completed history remains read-only.

Availability

What you need before setup

You need a Simple Muscle account and access to ChatGPT’s Developer mode and custom plugin connection flow. Availability can depend on your ChatGPT plan, workspace, and administrator settings. Setup is completed on ChatGPT web.

Setup

One link. 4 steps.

The connection uses your normal Simple Muscle sign-in. No API key or separate developer account is required.

  1. 1

    Enable Developer mode

On ChatGPT web, open Settings → Security and login, then turn on Developer mode. Workspace policy and your ChatGPT plan can affect whether the option appears.
  2. 2

    Add the Simple Muscle plugin

Open ChatGPT Plugins, select the plus button, and add a connection named Simple Muscle. Paste the MCP URL shown above when ChatGPT asks for the server address.
  3. 3

    Sign in to Simple Muscle

Continue through the authorization window and use your normal Simple Muscle account. Review the connection, then approve it. ChatGPT does not receive your password.
  4. 4

Enable it in a new chat

Start a new ChatGPT conversation, enable Simple Muscle, and ask to see your workouts. A successful connection returns your current plan—not a generic example.

Real workout data

Useful access, with a hard boundary.

ChatGPT can help plan and analyze training without rewriting what actually happened in the gym.

Read

Workout plans, logged sets, and progress

ChatGPT can inspect your workout templates, completed sessions, per-exercise history, volume, frequency, and the exercise catalog.

Change

The workouts you plan to perform

It can create a complete multi-day plan, add or remove exercises, and update sets, reps, weight, duration, notes, order, and schedule labels.

Protected

Completed workout history

What you actually completed stays read-only. ChatGPT can analyze those sessions, but it cannot edit or delete them.

First conversation

Try these after connecting.

Build
Create a three-day strength plan for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Use exercises available in Simple Muscle and save the complete plan.
Review
Review my completed workouts from the last four weeks. Show my training frequency and where my volume has changed most.
Adjust
Look at my recent bench press history and update next week's target conservatively based on the sets I actually completed.

Your account stays yours.

The connection opens Simple Muscle’s normal sign-in and grants tools only after you authorize it. ChatGPT never needs your Simple Muscle password.

  • Authorization uses OAuth and your normal Simple Muscle sign-in—not an API key pasted into ChatGPT.
  • Read and write capabilities are declared to the host so ChatGPT can distinguish inspection from changes.
  • You can disconnect Simple Muscle from ChatGPT and revoke the authorization when you no longer want it connected.
  • Completed sessions are a read-only record even though planned workouts can be edited.
Questions

Before you connect

Is this the same as pasting a workout prompt into ChatGPT?
No. A prompt gives ChatGPT the details you type into that conversation. The Simple Muscle connection gives it permissioned tools for your saved workout plans and history, so it can work with current structured data instead of relying on copied text or screenshots.
Why can’t I see Developer mode?
Developer mode availability can depend on your ChatGPT plan, workspace settings, and administrator policy. Confirm that you are using ChatGPT on the web, then check Settings → Security and login. Managed workspaces may need an administrator to allow it.
Can ChatGPT change workouts without asking?
ChatGPT can call the workout-editing tools you authorize, and the host controls how write and destructive confirmations appear. Review proposed changes and tool confirmations, especially when removing an exercise or deleting a workout template.
Can ChatGPT change a workout I already completed?
No. Completed workout history is read-only. ChatGPT can read and analyze those sessions, while edits apply to workout templates you plan to perform in the future.
Do I need a separate OpenAI API account or API key?
No. This is a connection inside ChatGPT. You use your existing ChatGPT account and sign in to your Simple Muscle account during authorization.
Provider setup details verified against OpenAI’s current developer documentation.
